iPhone 2.1 request

Posted at Monday, June 16th, 2008

Of all the key features on the iphone, the ipod functionality is what I use the most. It really has been great to carry my phone around and get the added bonus of it also being my music player. Now that I am driving to work again, I have been using that functionality a lot. A day doesn’t pass that I don’t que up a podcast or listen to some music (generally on shuffle) during my daily drive.

Shuffle is a great way to get reacquainted with bands that go unplayed for a while. It is amazing what forgotten gems it can find. What use to be an easy task of taking the ipod off of shuffle and having it just play an album straight through instead becomes a difficult one while driving. Currently it is a multi-step process to make this happen and something I don’t find myself doing a lot. What I would like to see is a button that turns off shuffle and takes you to album mode of that song that you were just listening to. I envision the button towards the bottom right of the album artwork and would only show up when in shuffle mode. Something that is easy to select while at the same time keeping your eyes on the road.

So Mr Jobs, what do you say, a little more functionality to keep us commuters safe?

  1. It is hard with one hand. Just use two ;)

  2. The iPod functionality is the one I use the least. I’m all about the web browsing. Still, that does sound like a cool feature, especially for those of us who drive stick.
