If you had asked me three years ago what I would be doing now, I would have been completely wrong. Probably a reason I don’t play the lottery or do very well in Vegas. I would have guessed that I’d work for a company that landed a contract for some three-letter government organization (with Level 3 Consultant after my name). I would have been completely wrong.
Two things really changed the direction of my forecast: a book by Jeffrey Zeldman and an ad on Craig’s list. Perusing Craig’s list a couple years ago I stumbled upon a front-end developer position at Revolution Health. An e-mail, an interview, and two days later I was putting in my two weeks’ notice and officially starting my career. The initial feeling was very interesting: a large, open area full of like-minded individuals, all amazingly smart and incredibly fun to work with. The passion was contagious. It started a domino effect for me. I had to learn everything I could, read every blog post, listen to every podcast, go to conferences and take part in the technology scene in the DC area.
Fast forward 2 years…
On Monday I will take a slightly different route to work. Instead of walking it will require a car (and probably a lot of other cars for that matter). Revolution won’t be the final destination anymore but it will always be my starting point. It was a great ride and I will always be thankful for the opportunity they gave me. I believe in the cause and know in my absence they will be fighting the good fight to empower consumers and play a role in fixing the health care system.
Monday, June 2, will be my first day joining the amazingly awesome team at Mixx. After working with Jason on politweets and twittertale I jumped at the chance to share office space and feed off his awesomeness (putting him up for next year’s international day of awesomeness king). However, after stepping into the office and meeting the others, I know the awesomeness doesn’t stop with Jason. I am really excited to join the team and already have some ideas (you know me: can’t stop the ideas, can only hope to contain them).
So thus starts chapter two. The funny part is, I still have no idea what the next three years will bring. But this time, I like that feeling.
