		<description>In my mind, it would be a requirement for the incoming students to log their contact information (which I think already is). The cell phone and email would go into a system much like twitter for emergency situations.

Another thing that could benefit is the Amber Alert system.</description>

Of course, as with almost all things web2.0, it isn&#039;t just the technology that&#039;s the magic bullet -- it requires an institutional decision to change the modus operandi.  How would VT know at whom to tweet?  Maybe Twitter ought to look into developing a functionality that gives educational institutions and such the ability to broadcast emergency info based on the city/state in users&#039; profiles.  Not a perfect filter but it&#039;d be enough to seed the clouds.</description>
